The glue that strengthens communities… and us

As South Africa’s largest storyteller is comes as no surprise that our CSI projects are all about telling stories.  We form partnerships with people and organisations and tell their stories, giving them the space to grow.  Our CSI department also assist our partners in creating their stories whilst our print partners distribute these stories to be read by the broader community.

Education and literacy is very important to us and these concepts run like a golden thread through all our activities. We invest in projects and companies which help to teach people to read and write, whether they’re young or old. Literacy, we feel, is not a gift but a right.

We therefore focus on starting up crèches where children who would otherwise not have had the chance, are taught to read and write at an early stage. We also donate books to people and sponsor festivals which give people a wider view of the world. We further support an annual national competition for school newspapers to teach and encourage learners to write their own stories.

Community projects are right at the heart of Media24 and its staff.  Right from senior management to cleaners are easily drawn into CSI activities, each in his or her own creative way.  This is the glue that keeps Media24 and all its different publications together.

On the Dot supports programme for the disabled

On the dot PMI

On the Dot has embraced the opportunity to participate in the Production Management Institute of South Africa's (PMI) learnerships for the disabled. Launched in February, the PMI initiative offers 10 learnerships to people with disabilities. After completing their learnerships participants will receive a qualification which is equivalent to an NQF 1.

"I'm a hard worker and most importantly I push hard to achieve my goals," says Phumelela Hobo, one of the programme participants. "We're fortunate to partner with an organisation such as the PMI who not only offers training but also helps businesses to identify areas where the learners can add most value," says On the Dot training and development manager Amanda Boonzaaier.

Seventeen temporary jobs were created during the last seven months.
